The Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced construction / M&E building services specialist to manage the technical information relating to our Estate and ensure our Maintenance & Technical Services team are compliant with legislation, service levels, agreed standards and best practice. You will work closely with professional colleagues in the Projects, Maintenance and Technical Services teams to ensure that technical data is effectively managed, current and accessible, to support the effective delivery of our services.

This is a new role, created following a restructure within the Estates Department, giving you broad scope to design and establish new working practices and protocols. You will also have the opportunity to lead on the introduction and development of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for a large and complex Estate.


The Person

Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, you will have an in-depth knowledge of statutory regulations and compliance in a maintenance environment, including health and safety. Coming from a background in construction / M&E building services, you will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of maintenance processes in a modern built environment. You will have a high level of ability to clearly communicate technical information to a range of audiences and will show excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to implementing policies and processes. You will be a credible manager of skilled professionals and confident in managing your stakeholders.

Estates Department

The Estates Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the telephone exchange as well as the University Design & Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
