This is an exciting opportunity to join the Division of Natural Science in the role of Technical Manager (Physics) and to be part of the future technical services team, delivering outstanding student experience and research excellence.

As a Technical Manager, you will have a focused specialism in the area of physics. Utilising your skills and experience you will oversee the timely and effective specialised research and teaching support to students and academic colleagues. You will oversee all technical staff within the Physics technical team, as well as working alongside other technical specialists and managers. You will plan, oversee, and review the work of the team, ensuring timely delivery of teaching events and the oversight of associated facilities, including managing operational budgets and the procurement of resources.

Leading from the front you will be just as comfortable managing the team as you are providing hands on teaching and research support when required.

Reporting to the IT and Technical Services Manager, the Technical Manager will contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the technical support provision across the division.

As Technical Manager (Physics) you will:

Manage technical teams across a broad subject area, planning and overseeing the allocation of work to both technicians, specialists and supervisors
Liaise with staff at senior levels and external service providers to ensure that complex technical requirements are understood
Collaborate and work with relevant senior management and academics in all matters relating to the deliver of technical services in the subject area

As Technical Manager (Physics) you have:

Advanced knowledge in the subject area of Physics, with experience in a related technical role
Experience of managing staff within a scientific environment
Practical experience managing the safe and effective operation of a scientific laboratory
Extensive experience in the use, maintenance and oversight of scientific equipment
Excellent working knowledge and experience of implementing safety regulations, legislation, and procedures
Excellent troubleshooting, advanced problem solving and diagnostic skills
