£26 - 28K per annum DOE for two days per week, term time only

The King's School

Based in the stunning Kent countryside and close to the cathedral city of Canterbury, Junior King’s is one of the most prestigious prep schools in the country. Within the heart of the school lies a strong sense of community.

We require a School Psychotherapist and Counsellor to work approximately 16 hours per week, during term time, offering a professional and confidential service to both students and staff. The successful candidate will promote positive emotional health and wellbeing within the students, enabling them to bring about changes for themselves.

Role Requirements:
• The ability to engage with young people and staff who face a variety of personal challenges
• Experience of working with primary/middle school children in a school setting
• Qualification in counselling or psychotherapy with children and adults
• Excellent understanding of child development and attachment theory, and the ability to apply theory to practice
• Being able to carry out assessments and formulations in collaboration with the children’s parents and teachers
• Ability to work creatively with children, utilising play and art materials, appropriate to their developmental stage
• Qualifications in trauma informed work would be welcomed
• Must be committed to offering our young people a stable, containing environment, including regular days each week (days to be confirmed)
• Experience of effectively managing your own diary and case load
• Must be literate in order to collate detailed case reports
• Experience and skills in liaising with other professionals
• Good listener, approachable, relatable
• Up to date safeguarding training and a willingness to undertake training
• An understanding of the school environment and an ability to see themselves as part of the school community.
• Willingness to work with the senior leadership team for the better care of both pupils and staff.

The successful candidate must hold a qualification recognised by the BACP/UKCP and have a minimum of two years post-qualifying experience.
