An award winning innovative provider of large scale travel solutions The Kings Ferry Group (part of National Express plc) is looking to add a Business Development Manager to their team to help maximise current growth.

Primarily based at our site in Gillingham, Kent you will need to be someone that has extensive experience of selling to corporate clients in a consultative solution driven environment. You will also require exceptional key account skills.

Candidates with experience gained in the transport sector would be of particular interest.

The role:

Reporting to the Head of Business Development you will be responsible for securing new large scale contracts across the Group’s multi-site ground transportation operation. Working in conjunction with the Head of Business Development you will be responsible for the entire sales cycle from initial cold call through to presenting a solution and closing multi-year contracts. You will need to be someone that is capable of working with large corporate businesses and working with multiple stakeholders to win contracts worth between £250-£1m p/a.

To be successful in this role you will require a real ‘hunter’ mentality coupled with exceptional key account skills. You will need to be charismatic, driven, polished and confident holding conversations and negotiating at senior level

Your daily duties include:

• Deliver sales against structured revenue targets
• Deliver YOY growth through new contract acquisitions.
• Create, negotiate and close high level commercial agreements
• Develop sales strategy to grow revenue from specific market sectors
• Proactively seek new opportunities within the marketplace.
• Identifying new revenue streams outside of core business.
• Prepare proposals and bespoke client presentations as necessary
• Complete PQQ and Tender submissions
• Nurture & develop long term client relationships to help grow revenue & profitability
• Work closely with the Contracts Manager and Account Manager Team to ensure a market leading service is delivered to all customers
• Provide detailed revenue reports and sales forecasts in line with business requirements and at agreed frequencies.
• Work closely with the Head of Business Development & Marketing Manager on campaigns to drive new revenue opportunities.
• Attend exhibitions, meetings and networking events to showcase what we can offer as a business.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• 3-5 years’ experience in a business development role
• You will have enjoyed an impressive sales career to date - with a demonstrable track record of over achievement in new business development and highly polished account management credentials.
• Individuals with a definite ‘hunter’ outlook are required and it goes without saying that you’re an excellent negotiator, communicator and influencer.
• You will need a passion for sales and winning large scale contracts
• Experience building credibility with a senior-level client base
• Ability to think outside the box to maximise results.


Classically trained sales professionals with experience of working with technology/online driven travel business would be very much of interest. As would candidates with knowledge and experience of PQQ’s and the tender submission process
