Situated in a lovely homely part of Northfleet, Dene Holm is a purpose built two-storey home, which specialises in dementia and provides care for up to 42 older people.

Dene Holm also provides short respite term care. They aim to provide a home from home, giving both the residents and their carer a chance to relax and recharge their batteries.

Dene Holm\'s highly trained staff are committed to caring for the residents as though they are an extended family member, getting to know them and supporting them to live life to the fullest.

The Home has vacancies for a Kitchen Domestic, who will maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining areas and the food preparation areas, and assist the Head Cook and Second Cook when required.

Pay: £8.21 per hour.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

o Keep all relevant areas clean, tidy and presentable at all times in line with the cleaning schedule.
o Assist with food preparation when required.
o Set tables as applicable, wash up and clean kitchen equipment in accordance with the cleaning schedule and as directed.
o Serve meals to the Residents.
o Put the food provisions into the correct storage when delivered and assist in stock rotation
o Participate in the organisation of any functions, menu planning and celebrations including residents and home occasions.
o Dispose of waste in accordance with policies and procedures
o Promote choice in residents daily living
o Undertake any other associated duties as directed by the Head Cook or Home/General Manager.
o Participate in any qualifications, Food Safety courses or other training as required for personal development.
o Maintain high standards of confidentiality in accordance with the Organisations policies and beliefs.
o Attend all mandatory training on an annual basis.
o Uphold agreed policies, procedures and standards of care in keeping with the stated beliefs of the Organisation.
o Promote a positive image of the Organisation.
o Work to promote equality and diversity, and eliminate discrimination for all the Organisations service users, staff and volunteers.
o Attend staff and residents meetings and training activities as directed.


The ideal Kitchen Domestic will demonstrate

o A caring and compassionate approach
o Patience and understanding of older people
o Knowledge of or a willingness to be trained in the correct procedures for carrying out all of their duties including use of moving and handling equipment
o Awareness of cultural and dietary needs of individuals
o Current knowledge of HandS legislation and application of HandS practices with particular regard to catering equipment
o Knowledge and understanding of COSHH regulations
o Good communication skills with different groups, e.g. staff, residents, local community
o Understanding of different values / cultures of residents and staff
o Team working skills
o Good timekeeping skills
o Professionalism


The ideal Kitchen Domestic will have the ability to:

o Play an active role in creating a good environment
o Prioritise their work
o Be aware of the support needed by others, consider how they can support them and encourage and support them
o Train for and take on additional responsibilities
o Listen carefully and attentively
o Respect the dignity and privacy of all those they come into contact with
o Apply their knowledge and training in the workplace
o Uphold the policies and procedures of The Organisation


The duties of the post necessitate the following essential training elements being completed subsequent to employment:

o Induction
o Moving and Handling
o Health and Safety (including COSHH regulations)
o Certificate in Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2
o Adult Protection
o Equality and Diversity
o First Aid Awareness
o Fire Awareness
o Infection Control
o Knowledge of the Home\'s speciality, eg. Dementia Care, Parkinson\'s Disease
o Behaviour that may challenge
