Mascalls Academy are seeking to appoint a Learning Mentor to join their vibrant team from November 2020. If you are currently looking for a role which allows you to support students by using innovative methods to develop their learning skills, please continue to submit an application! As a member of the Learning Support Department, you are responsible for supporting children with Special Educational Needs in a classroom environment and working with staff and pupils to promote whole school incentives.

Working under the direct instruction of the SENCO, your role would be to support access learning for pupils and provide general support to teachers in the management of students. Learning Mentors need to be able to respond positively to change in order to meet the needs of students and help them overcome particular barriers to their learning.
If successful, you would be part of an organisation that enjoys a great reputation in the area and one that will develop your career; we have a fantastic track record and there are numerous opportunities for professional development. If you are committed to providing a first class education experience, then we want to hear from you.

This is a full time (37 hours per week), permanent position offering an actual salary between £15,221 - £16,234 commensurate with experience, based on Term Time + 1 week of inset.

GRADUATES: If you are a graduate and considering a career in teaching, then a Learning Mentor position could be the ideal way to gain classroom experience and decide if education is right for you. As a graduate, you would undertake the role, normally in your specialist subject area, and work closely with a mentor to maximise your learning. If you decide to commence your teacher training we will put you in touch with our recommended provider, KMT who will help with your application and guide you through the process.

Working at Mascalls Academy: Mascalls Academy is a secondary school at the heart of the community and our small school model ensures that each and every student gets the personal support and challenge they need to reach their full potential. The academy is divided into four colleges – Shackleton, Earhart, Luther King and Marie Curie Sixth Form College each having their own personality and range of specialisms, allowing them to be unique.

Mascalls Academy is a high achieving institution. Our recent OFSTED inspection notes “ambitious leadership has established an ethos where staff are committed to driving standards up”, that Mascalls is a “happy place to be” and that “staff feel valued”. Our judgement that we are a ‘Good’ school with ‘Outstanding’ leadership and behaviour is accurate. It is our vision to become ‘Outstanding’ in every category.

Mascalls Academy is a dynamic and exciting place to work and the fantastic leadership team is committed to making it great for people at all stages in their careers. Our building and facilities are a mix of designs with two new buildings being modern, light and airy giving the academy a unique and special character.

We can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and collaborative department, not only within Mascalls but with the wider Trust as well. Full support will be provided and you’ll have the tools and environment needed to teach in a way that works for you. We know that being a teacher can be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures and that you thrive on inspiring young adults and stimulating their curiosity. We aim to give our teachers the freedom to innovate and inspire our students as we know this is a crucial ingredient in driving great learning outcomes.

Being a part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2020, our Trust will comprise 28 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 15 primaries and 2 special) educating over 16,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. We also have one further secondary academy in the development phase, due to open in September 2021. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school. Click here to view our future plans in our Vision 2025 document.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

Recruitment and hiring during COVID-19: Despite the challenges we face, recruitment and hiring will continue for all Leigh Academies Trust vacancies with as little disruption as possible over the coming weeks and months. This is for all senior, teaching and support staff appointments. Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted in a timely manner, although interview activities will vary. If you have any queries or concerns, please get in touch with the LAT Talent Team - talent@latrust.org.uk
Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, Leigh Academies Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date. Applicants will be notified of this where possible. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.
