Trade Compliance Team Leader
Medway
£40k - £45k DOE
Mon - Fri
Our well-established client is seeking an experience Supply Chain professional to join their team working as a Compliance Team Leader to join them on a full time and permanent basis.
This role is responsible for ensuring full trade compliance, including managing the end of the Brexit transition period. You will be managing a team of 6 and be responsible for training them in full on customs regulations, as well as overseeing performance and day to day operations of the team - this will be carried out remotely initially
You will be working with external suppliers such as freight forwarders as well as all internal teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective import of goods. Due to the nature of this role, the Compliance Team Leader will come from Distribution and Supply Chain and have an in depth knowledge of customs procedures, trade compliance and have experience working with HMRC and Border Force.
Duties include;
* Trade Compliance and Supply Chain risk identification
* Overseeing import controls, ensuring all are compliant, timely and cost effective
* Management of audits, applications for rulings and other negotiations with local UK customs authorities
* Monitoring of Deferment accounts to ensure the company are trading within limits
* Communicating and maintaining the oversight with Customs agents, reviewing all customs documentation to check and verify all are entered correctly
* Managing contracts with all Forwarders and Suppliers
* Developing operating procedures and contracts for third party providers especially freight forwards acting as customs agents, implementing KPIs to ensure consistent performance
* Supporting business projects such as Brexit, MDR; Modern Slavery, LSAS, providing advice and solutions in respect of trade compliance and risk
* Develop and implement a core trade compliance operating process initially focused on imports as related to Brexit
* Monitor and circulate new and changing product compliance laws and regulations
* Maintain and improve record keeping policies and procedures for all import transactions, including customs declarations
The successful candidate will have/be;
* Extensive experience in a similar role
* In depth knowledge of trade compliance including tariff classifications, customs valuations and origin determination International shipping documents
* Experience working with HMRC & Border Force
* A pro-active and practical problem solver
* A background within Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain
* Experience of International Transport, international Imports and Exports and Freight
