Support Worker - Mental Health Support
Canterbury
Temporary - ongoing shift cover
£10.09+ per hour inclusive of holiday pay

Company/Organisation:
Founded in the 80s this fantastic charity have been offering mental health and social care support for over forty years.
They offer a wide range of specific services including therapy & counselling, helpline & webchat, housing, advice and information, crisis support and mental health and well being support.
Due to summer season annual leave and some long term sickness they are currently looking for temporary support in a crisis support service in Canterbury.

Role:
You will join a support team operating a walk/call in centre providing support to service users who are seeking help, often feeling distressed, frightened and overwhelmed. This service operates across evening hours where many other services are closed and has become a popular out of hours support service for individuals aged 16+ seeking mental health support.
You will provide information and one-to-one emotional support to individuals who are in crisis or feel they are heading towards a crisis situation. You may assist in creating a 'staying well' or crisis plan and will signpost other services and organisations that may be useful to them.
The team work closely with GPs, Community Mental Health Teams, Crisis Teams, A&E Mental Health Liaison Teams, Police and Ambulance Services, Street Triage, and other front-line healthcare professionals to ensure that people in emotional distress have a safe, supportive place to go to, with the appropriate mental health support available.

Shifts : The service operates from 6pm-11pm daily.

Skills/Experience required:

* A minimum of 1 years experience within a mental health support role
* Experience offering emotional support to individuals who are going through crisis
* NVQ Level 2 and/or Level 3 in Health & Social Care
* The sensitivity required to provide a trusting and supportive environment along with being passionate about supporting people.
* Knowledge of local support services that you can signpost service users to
* Excellent communication skills
* A genuine desire to make a real difference in people's lives
* You will be positive and willing to create and follow a personalised service to every individual that you support.
