Senior Data Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Business Intelligence Team, to build and maintain optimised and highly available data pipelines that facilitate deeper analysis and reporting. You will manage the storage and structure of data within our cloud based data platform. You will lead on the continuous improvement in data quality, identifying data issues and presenting improvement ideas. You will work closely with IT, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

Role & Responsibilities:

Support the Business Intelligence Manager on the implementation of the Cantium BI Strategy and Roadmap and delivery of key outcomes including:

- Centralised source of truth

- Automated and self-service reporting

- Data hungry culture o Establishment of a BI centre of excellence

- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources and formats using ETL Tools.

- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.

- Implement core data management competencies including data governance, data security and data quality.

- Perform data and system analysis, assessment and resolution for complex defects and incidents and correct as appropriate.

- Work closely with IT, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

- Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on complex data products/analytic environment.

- This role may be required to manage staff either in a line management capacity or indirectly as part of a project team including external resource.

- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with senior internal stakeholders, subject matter experts and external clients.

Essential Skills & Experience:

- ETL design and implementation using tools such as Azure Synapse Pipelines, Data Factory, Logic Apps and SSIS .

- Hands on experience with schema design using semi-structured and structured data structures.

- Experience with data lake and data warehousing principles and technologies.

- Experience evaluating cost/performance trade-offs within the Azure environment.

- Experience of working with technical and non-technical stakeholders and clients.

- Experience of improving data quality and assurance.

- Ability to consider challenges in the context of organisation goals.

- Strong knowledge of SQL Server and its components - queries, stored procedures, functions, views.
