Cedar House is a 40 bed hospital for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, personality disorders, autism and challenging behaviours who are detained under the Mental Health Act. Cedar House enjoys a beautiful rural location situated in the village of Barham, on the outskirts of Canterbury and is easily accessible by public transport, being on the main bus route between Canterbury and Folkestone.

We are seeking a Chef to join our friendly catering team on a permanent basis. Working a rota system covering the hours of 08:00am – 5:30pm and working only 1 weekend in 3 with no split shifts, you will work alongside our Chefs and Catering Assistants providing daily meals for up to 40 patients in addition to staff and visitors.

You will be involved in the preparation, cooking and delivering of food to the highest standards to patients, visitors and staff. Duties include preparing and cooking hot lunches, evening meals, sandwiches and salads for patients, staff and visitors. As part of our daily patient eating experience initiative you will also prepare and cook following an al a carte menu.

You will ensure the effective control of raw materials, equipment and supplies, ensuring relevant HACCP documentation is completed. You will assist in the regular reviews of menus in line with patient, staff and visitor requirements, including the provision of special diets and providing professional catering advice when required.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent knowledge of food hygiene and food preparation including relevant qualification and experience, along with a positive attitude and a desire to deliver the best possible service to the patients in our care. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team is desirable, along with possession of a driving licence.
