We are seeking to appoint an experienced transport manager to organise and manage all aspects of the school’s transport service including line managing a team of drivers and escorts and arranging maintenance of all of the vehicles.
The successful candidate should have:
• Previous fleet management experience
• Previous experience of managing a large team.
• A full clean driving license (Category B entitlement)
• A minimum of GCSE grade C in English and Maths
• Experience of using Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to motivate and support colleagues
You will be a pro-active well organised but flexible, friendly individual with a willingness to go the extra mile. Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable but not essential.

1. PURPOSE OF JOB
• Organise and manage all aspects of the school’s transport service including home to school provision.
• Ensure all children are collected and delivered home, dealing with any emergency situations outside your usual working hours as required.
• Ensure that the School’s fleet of vehicles is maintained in excellent working order and are operated correctly by all the minibus drivers.
• Lead and manage the team of drivers and escorts to include conducting appraisals and probationary reviews.
2. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage the home to school transport service and drive one of the routes when required
• Plan each route in conjunction with the Headteacher/Head of Business & Premises.
• Ensure that all vehicles are serviced, repaired, safety inspected, taxed, insured, MOT tested, cleaned, kept roadworthy and are maintained in excellent working order.
• Arrange short term and long term cover for absences including out of hours.
• Arrange and deliver/collect minibuses/cars from garages as necessary for services, repairs and MOT’s
• Maintain up to date records of all vehicle servicing, safety checks, mot’s, road tax, permits and pupils transported.
• Ensure that accidents and damage to vehicles are reported and repaired in a timely manner
• Ensure minibus grab packs including bibs, first aid kits etc. are kept up to date and available for use
• To ensure all minibus and MPV drivers under-go initial driver training and assessment and that they are reassessed at a maximum 4 year interval
• To arrange team-teach training with our behaviour team for drivers and escorts.
• Arrange Drivers medicals (if required)
• Check driving licences bi-annually and maintain a list of all authorised drivers
• Provide drivers or drive for ad-hoc activities e.g. taking a child home during their introduction
• Respond to any incident reports, liaising with other school staff as necessary.
• Liaise with parents/carers over collection/drop off times
• Supervise the drivers/escorts on a daily basis
• Review defect reports and take appropriate actions.
• Undertake safety checks
• Review telematics reports and take any necessary corrective action
• Co-ordinate and participate in any external inspections
• To assist the Head of Business & Premises with reviewing the ”driving a school minibus” policy annually
• Ensure that all day transport drivers comply with the “driving a school minibus” policy
• Report any significant issues to Head of Business and Premises
• Complete internal and external cleaning of minibuses
• Comply with all school policies
• Any other duties commensurate with the grade and role
