The School of Biosciences is seeking to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer position to contribute to the teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The successful candidate will be expected to provide an excellent standard of education in modules that underpin our BSc (Hons) and taught MSc programmes.
A key element of the role will be the supervision and assessment of taught Master’s with a particular focus on the practical application of cutting-edge molecular biology. You will prepare and deliver lectures, practical classes, small-group teaching and student support, and will have responsibility for setting and marking assessments and exams.
The role will be particularly suitable for a scientist with recent postdoctoral research experience in relevant areas of modern molecular biology, as well as some teaching experience, who seeks to develop experience in university-level education.
As a Lecturer in Molecular Biosciences you will:

identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives.
develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance
maintain cutting-edge knowledge in relevant areas through continuing professional development (CPD)
prepare proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes
To be successful in this role you will have:
first degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
PhD in a relevant discipline
possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to deliver an excellent standard of classroom and practical teaching in modern molecular biology at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
the ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn
The School of Biosciences is a vibrant, stimulating and welcoming environment for research and education within the Division of Natural Sciences. In REF2014, Bioscience at Kent was ranked 7th on the basis of ‘research intensity’, and the appointment of a range of new staff since 2014 has meant that research quantity and quality have risen still further. This is now an extremely active research environment. The School has a collegiate atmosphere with around 40 academic staff and Research Fellows, and its critical mass and excellence are focused on a number of core research themes, namely:
Industrial Biotechnology
Infection and drug resistance
Cancer and age-related diseases
Cellular architecture and dynamics
Reproduction, evolution and genomics
The School of Biosciences is a welcoming and diverse environment that has been recognised with a Bronze Athena SWAN award. We are keen to enhance the balanced, inclusive, and diverse nature of the community within the School and would particularly encourage female candidates to apply for this post.
