Temporary Operational Support Grade (OSG) HMP Cookham Wood in The Medway Towns, Kent: Long-term Temporary SHIFT Contracts
Shift Rate initially of £10.20 per hour with additional rates for weekends and nights. (inclusive of Holiday Pay) after 13 week completion increase to £11.93 per hour
Overview of the HMP Cookham Wood positions:
As the leading supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit Shift Operational Support Grades (OSGs) for HM Prison Cookham Wood in the Medway Towns, Kent. Starts ASAP, immediate starts if you are already Prison Cleared.
Long-term temporary positions.
Purpose of the OSG role:
As part of the security team you will be responsible for assisting in the safety and security of the establishment where your duties will include escorting visitors, building contractors, gate duties within the prison and outside areas. You will ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff and prisoners within a Prison establishment, while persons from outside of NOMS are on site. You will also ensure that no unauthorised persons or items enter the establishment.
Kent Prisons have an excellent reputation as busy local prisons, which serve all the courts in the South East. They pride themselves in engaging and involving employees working alongside them in the process of change.
Main Gate - Shift Pattern: on average 39 hours per week but on a rolling 6 week rota, including early, late, nights and weekend shifts.
For the first 12 weeks, pay rates are as follows: Monday - Friday £10.20ph.
On your thirteenth week, there is a rate increase to £11.93 for all your rota hours.

Situated in Main Gate Reception & Communications Room
Emergency Control Room & Switchboard duties
Shift Pattern consisting of early, late, mains, weekends, nights
Starting Rate of £10.20 per hour Mon - Fri, weekends & nights at higher rates
Rate increasing up to £11.93 after 3months
Searching Buildings & Patrolling perimeter and grounds
Searching prisoners property, Canteen and kit exchange duties
Checking & Searching Staff, Visitors & contractors
Supervised when Issuing Keys to Staff
Supervision of visitors & contractors on site
Night patrol duties
CCTV operation and Radio Handling
Routine administrative work - Booking in Visitors & Staff
Health & Safety Procedures
Experience:
No formal qualifications or previous experience is required for this role. However, applicants with security backgrounds are highly desirable.
The nature of the OSG role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will have a background in customer services or security, and will be assessed based on the following competencies: Acting with integrity, respecting others, Building relationships and team working, communicating effectively, developing self and others.
Full training is provided by the establishment/ department.
Security Clearance required: Immediate start if you are already Prison Cleared. All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 6 weeks. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
