About the Role
Maidstone Museums are looking for an energetic, dynamic, and organised individual to lead the day to day running of our high quality, customer focused Museum service.

Maidstone Museum comprises of three discrete spaces; Maidstone Museum, The Royal West Kent Regimental Museum and The Carriage Museum. The Museums are at a particularly interesting and exciting phase of development with a new Gallery recently opened in June 2024 and another planned Gallery opening in 2025. We would like our Visitor Experience and Operations Supervisor to play a key part in the success of the new spaces, whilst engaging with Maidstone residents to understand their hopes and aspirations for the Museum.

This is a 30 hour per week position on a permanent basis. The role is generally Wednesday – Saturday hours, and in summer holidays we work Monday – Saturday. Saturdays are a regular shift and there can be no negotiation on this aspect of the role.

About You
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Museum Team at Maidstone Borough Council and manage a busy Visitor Experience department. The Visitor Experience and Operations Supervisor will lead the Museum team in delivering a welcoming and safe environment for the residents of Maidstone to enjoy the Museum’s collections, events, and exhibitions.

The role will be responsible for several aspects of the Museum’s front of house offer including the Museum shop, Tourist Information, general property and operational management, room hire revenue and developing our successful children’s party offer.

The post holder will engage with key stakeholders to achieve a thriving, friendly and inclusive Museum Visitor Service. We’re looking for someone who can confidently bring new ideas and energy to the Museum; assist residents and listen to their needs; enjoy sales and promotion of a heritage space for hires and parties.

The Council considers that all roles should be able to communicate clearly and concisely.

The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.
